The Farm: Life Inside a Women's Prison
Published in Paperback by Univ. of Massachusetts Press (June, 1997)
Author: Andi Rierden
Average review score:

An honest and sensative book
This book offers an honest and sensative look at real human beings and their lives. Without getting overly romantic about their situation in prison, it yields a soft picture of a side of society we too easily forget, avoid or misunderstand. It expands your vision of the world and therefore is very much worth reading.

Fitch Family History: English Ancestry of the Fitches of Colonial Connecticut
Published in Hardcover by Picton Press (01 January, 1994)
Author: John T. Fitch
Average review score:

The Fitch Family beginnings
Very well written, but why not, it was written by John T. Fitch who has spent so much time researching the Fitch family. He knows our family inside and out. This book traces the early Fitch family back to England. There are numerous pictures in it from documents in old England. If you don't understand some of the words from old England have no fear, he gives a wonderful Glossary with definitions. He explains how the Fitch name and it's different spellings came about and has an extensive index. There are explanations on the different coats of arms and where they originated from. It reads like a novel though. You can sit down and just run through it quite fast and then go back and get the details on the different names for research. What a wonderful book for your Fitch research and best of all he's done the work for you.

Friendly Divorce Guidebook for Connecticut: Planning, Negotiating and Filing Your Divorce
Published in Paperback by Bradford Publishing Company (March, 1998)
Authors: Barbara Kahn Stark, S. W. Wendy Whicher, and M. Arden Hauer
Average review score:

Amazingly helpful!
Ms. Stark's book offers both efficiency and compassion as she helps divorcing couples work through the process. Her information is accurate and precise. The advice she provides will enable reasonable people to find resolutions to many of the natural flashpoint issues natural to divorce.

Besides outlining the value of the mediation process in reaching closure and saving money, Stark provides a step-by-step how-to guide. Just as important, she offers an overview of the psychological stages of divorce that offers reassurance and preparation.

As a person using this book myself, I can recommend it to other Nutmeggers who find themselves needing to end a marriage. Doing so is always painful; Stark offers a guiding hand to help manage this passage.

A reader from Newburyport: This was both a fun and a great learning book. This book presents interesting, sometimes obscure facts about Connecticut. Subjects covered include historical figures, legends, geography, wildlife, stories, and other little known facts about the state. You can learn a lot by reading it and another interesting feature is that the book is designed so that you can also use the book to play a family or group trivia game! Well worth the price! It is a great book for adults, young readers, or teachers.
